San Francisco - Arts & Entertainment

San Francisco, CA - Things to Do

San Francisco has both urban culture and natural beauty for more refined enjoyment.  Performance art also has a historical hold on San Francisco, and the city consistently attracts top touring acts.  The theater district which is not far from Union Square offers a wide range of live musical and dramatic performances, with fine dining nearby for your convenience.

You’ll find the new DeYoung Museum at Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor at the Presidio.  The Pacific Ocean and the Museum of Modern Art are located across from the Yerba Buena Garden Oasis downtown.

For more family oriented entertainment, there are entertainment venues geared with children in mind such as the Exploratorium which was founded in 1969 by noted physicist and educator Dr. Frank Oppenheimer.  The Exploratorium offers an array of over 650 hands-on science, art, and human perception exhibits.  From salt volcanoes and bubble bombs to fault lines and frogs, testing imaginations of both young and old.

Walk through 300 feet of crystal-clear tunnels and explore marine secrets of San Francisco Bay.  Simulating an authentic underwater dive, the Aquarium of the Bay puts you within inches of thousands of marine animals found in the San Francisco Bay and surrounding waters.

For a more lively entertainment, you can be sure there is a San Francisco festival or event for every season, culture and cause imaginable, including Chinese New Year, Oktoberfest and Carnival.

There’s plenty of nightlife activities offered in San Francisco, and they are as varied as San Francisco itself.  Each San Francisco neighborhood bars, clubs, and lounges have distinct personalities.  San Francisco's SOMA offers electronic music clubs, hip hop and chill art lounges.  The Mission district is great for bar hopping for rockers; but if your taste runs a little more elegant, suitable bars can be found in the Marina district.  Gay-friendly bars and clubs can be found just about anywhere in  San Francisco, but are more likely in the Castro.  In addition, San Francisco's North Beach is open until the wee hours offering neon strip joints and hideaway bars.

Regardless of your preference of activities, there are more things you can do and see in the San Francisco Bay Area than you can imagine.  You will never lack for entertainment in this vibrant and robust community!
